GLENMERE AT CLOVERWOOD ASSISTED LIVING EXPANSION UNDERWAY
Today, Glenmere at Cloverwood, a non-profit assisted living community for seniors, broke ground and announced a $6 million expansion project. Glenmere is located on the Cloverwood campus in Pittsford, which also features patio homes and apartments for active seniors.
“We are thrilled to break ground on Glenmere’s expansion,” said Paul Phillips, executive vice president and COO of Cloverwood. “This exciting project will meet a growing need for assisted living services at Cloverwood and in surrounding communities for years to come.”
Glenmere currently provides 20 assisted living apartments and is expanding to 57. The project also features several new amenities, including a café, garden courtyards, and covered patios, along with expanded dining, meeting and recreational areas.
Of the 37 new Glenmere apartments, 16 will be located in a special neighborhood designed for seniors impacted by memory loss. Sherry Hoose, Glenmere’s assisted living director said, “The onset of Alzheimer’s and other memory conditions is frightening and devastating for seniors and their families. Glenmere will provide a safe, comfortable, supportive home for seniors in the early to mid stages of the process.”
Glenmere is collaborating with the Rochester Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association on program development and specialized staff training in the new memory support neighborhood.
“The need for new senior living options and services continues to grow at a remarkable pace in Rochester and nationally,” said James Dewhirst, president and CEO of Cloverwood Senior Living, Inc. and The Friendly Home, a 200-bed non-profit nursing home on East Avenue in Brighton. Many residents of Cloverwood and Glenmere access The Friendly Home’s services if a need arises for short-term rehabilitative care or long-term skilled nursing care.
“Our organization’s mission is to provide residents and their families a full continuum of services, from housing, to home delivered services, to assisted living to residential healthcare,” added Dewhirst. “Glenmere’s expansion is another example of our mission in action, and we are very pleased to be broadening the scope and range of our services to the community.”
The project has been designed by Perkins Eastman, one of the nation’s leading architectural and interior design firms specializing in living environments for seniors. The construction manager is Rochester-based LeCesse Construction Services LLC, which also specializes in senior living, having built numerous retirement communities in the Rochester area, across New York State, and in several other states.
Glenmere’s expansion is a renewed collaboration between Perkins Eastman and LeCesse. Both firms were involved in creating the Cloverwood campus which opened in 2004. Three separate garden courtyards designed by Bayer Associates landscape architects of Honeoye Falls will be among the signature spaces of the expansion project.
Glenmere at Cloverwood’s expansion will be completed in summer 2010. For more information or to arrange a tour, contact Glenmere at 248-1200 or visit the Cloverwood website at www.cloverwood.org.
Glenmere is licensed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) as an Enriched Housing program and provides individualized daily living assistance to seniors, including personal care, medication supervision, service coordination, dining services, recreational and cultural programs, and transportation. In conjunction with the expansion project, Glenmere will obtain NYSDOH licensure as an Assisted Living Residence and certifications to provide enhanced and special needs (memory support) services.
